The Ashland University Department of Biology/Toxicology offers a number of strong pre-professional programs designed to prepare students for careers in medicine, physical therapy, and other health fields. These programs build on the basic requirements of our B.S. degree with a major in Biology and/or our B.S. degree with a major in Toxicology to provide students with the specific coursework they need to achieve admission to the professional program of their choice. At the same time, the B.S. in Biology or B.S. in Toxicology degrees provide students with maximum flexibility in the event that they choose to pursue other career options within the biological sciences. Pre-professional students will work with an advisor (a faculty member within the Department of Biology/Toxicology) to ensure that degree and pre-professional requirements are met. In addition, our Professional Preparation course (a 1 hour course required of juniors) helps pre-professional students identify and take the steps necessary to apply to the appropriate programs. The Department of Biology/Toxicology is proud of its strong preprofessional programs. We have an excellent record of placing students in professional schools, and our graduates report back that they were well prepared for the challenges of graduate or professional study. Our graduates have been accepted into programs at schools such as the Ohio State University, the University of Michigan, Case Western Reserve, Miami University, Georgetown University, Johb Carroll University, the University of Akron, the University of Toledo, the University of California at Davis, The University of California at Santa Barbara, Wayne State University, and Wright State University. Preprofessional programs are available in the following areas:
