David FitzSimmons teaches courses both in the English department and in the College of Education. A former high school English teacher, Dr. FitzSimmons helps prepare future language arts teachers through courses such as Literature for Adolescents and Teaching Integrated Language Arts/English in Grades 7-12. He also supervises student teachers from the Integrated
Language Arts major. Composition I and II, The Modern Novel, The Short Story, Great Books, and American literature courses are among the major and core courses Professor FitzSimmons teaches. He is currently at work on a book investigating the narrative techniques of William Faulkner and is preparing research on visual narrative techniques in children’s picture books. Dr. FitzSimmons is also a published photographer and writer, and he holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in English from The Ohio State
University and a B.A. in English and Classics from Xavier University.
