Foreign
Languages at Ashland University
The
Department of Foreign Languages prepares students with the proficiency in spoken and written language they can use professionally or as global citizens.
Students may opt for the
B.A. or B.S. Ed. degree in French
and Spanish
as well as minors in French, Spanish, and Foreign
Studies . Foreign Language
Majors benefit from a challenging, comprehensive, and balanced
curriculum of language, civilization, and literature and
have access to Study
Abroad programs in Canada, France, Mexico
, Costa Rica, Spain, and other countries. The Foreign
Language curriculum at Ashland University
and in study abroad offers students the educational
opportunities needed to promote student achievement of expected
outcomes and to gain recognition for the department
as a leader regionally. The faculty's unique "accent
on the individual" through mentoring, advising and
participation in co-curricular opportunities, the portfolio
assessment process, and attention to individual student
needs combines with the curriculum to create a challenging
yet supportive atmosphere in which students can realize
their potential.
For
non-majors/minors, completion of the second-year courses
in the basic language program in French, German, and Spanish
provides a strong, multi-skill foundation in a language
and fulfills the language requirement
for the B.A. degree . Students may enter the foreign
language course sequence any appropriate point, based on
the Placement
Tool established by the Department and the Registrar's
Office.
