The
Department of Religion
at
Ashland University
The
Department of Religion is an important part of the liberal
arts education offered at Ashland University. All students
take at least one course in the Department and many take more
than that.
Students
like what they find. While few declare religion as a
major when they first set foot on campus, a significant number
choose to major or minor in the subject during their course
of study at Ashland.
Located
in the new Rinehart Center for Religious Studies, this department
enables students to explore the major fields of Biblical studies,
Christian theology, history of Christianity and Christian
thought, practical theology, Christian ethics and the world's
major religious traditions.
The academic study
of religion challenges students to develop critical analytic
skills that are applicable in all fields in the liberal arts.
Many of our majors go on to graduate school in religion, study
in seminaries, teach religion in primary and secondary schools,
or other types of lay ministries such as mission work or social
service.
What is true for all our students
is that taking courses in the Department of Religion fulfills
the Mission of Ashland University by better preparing them
for the purpose of leading meaningful lives in the world
community.
