David Aune
Dr.
Aune came to Ashland University in the fall of 1996. Before Ashland,
he taught part-time at a number of colleges in New England, including
Providence College, Wesleyan University and Eastern Connecticut
State University. Dr. Aune holds the Ph.D. degree in the History
of Religions: Early Christianity from Brown University, a Th.M.
in New Testament from Regent Collge (affiliated with the University
of British Columbia), an M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological
Seminary and a B.A. in English literature from the University of
Vermont. He also is an ordained minister in the United Church of
Christ and has served as pastor for churches in Florida, Rhode Island
and a number of places in Ohio.
On a more personal note, Dr. Aune is married to Diana Wilkerson-Aune,
a child psychologist in Mansfield Ohio. He has three sons, Matthew,
Jakob and Peter, all of whom are currently living in Tallahasee
Florida. Dr. Aune also has three step-sons, Christopher, Brian and
Tobin and two step-grandchildren, Stephanie and Jonathan. Dr. Aune's
hobbies include travel, photography and a variety of outdoor activities
(especially gardening, hiking, golf and cross-country skiing). He
also likes to cook, but instead of following recipes with exact
precision, Dr. Aune has been described as a master of "inspirational
cooking." His work in the kitchen, like his work in the classroom,
is enthusiastic and full of flavor!
