McLaughlin teaches classes in both biblical studies and theology.
He received his BA in religion from Mount Vernon Nazarene University
. Afterwards, he completed two masters degrees from Ashland Theological

he completed his research thesis, God of Authentic Rapport:
A Tale of MeinIgenes . This project explored the contemporary

as a fictional narrative.
While in seminary, Ryan worked in the Presbyterian Church (USA). He started off as the youth pastor. However, as the need arose, he served as the temporary pastor for almost a year. Even so, his membership remains in the Nazarene Church .
Ryan is currently working towards entering a doctoral program researching the God/world relationship.
With his free time, Ryan enjoys composing music, writing both academically and creatively, and performing (guitar and vocal). He enjoys spending time with his wife, Melissa, and his two chinchillas, Chupie and Bunkie.
