1. Catalog description:

Economic theory of risk, its significance and treatment; theory and practice of property, liability, life and

health insurance.

2. Course content:

Introduction to risk and risk management.  Business risk management, the risk manager's function and

 relationship to other management functions.  Risk identification and measurement fundamentals and

applications. Tools of risk management, their nature and selection. Insurance contracts and their uses.

Implementing an insurance decision.

3. Student learning objectives:

To identify the various events in business which may cause a risk of loss and the methods by which

business may protect against those types of losses; specifically, control, reduction, elimination,

retention, or transfer are the most effective methods of handling the risk of loss.

4. Student assessment criteria:

Objective‑type test: true or false, multiple‑choice questions, short‑answer questions, math and/or

statistical problems.  The syllabus indicates that excessive absences can be detrimental to the student's

grade.  Grading is on a percentage basis.
