Current Events for Spring 2008

Students:

If you have an idea for a business, a product, or a service, enter your idea into the Business Concept Competition.  Pick up a brochure and entry form today at the Morgan Center Office.

During January and February, the Business Concept Competition is being developed.  You may submit your business idea by picking up an Entry Form at the Morgan Center Office in Dauch College room 109 or room 112.  Connect to this link ----- for more information.

On Tuesday, January 29th, at 6:30 pm in the Ridenour Room of Dauch College, the Morgan Center will be presenting another “Meet the Entrepreneur Night”.  There will be three local entrepreneurs participating in a panel discussion about starting and operating their own businesses.  The panel will give the audience an account of their experiences and then be available for audience questions.

Also on January 29th, following the above event, the Morgan Center will present an “Introduction meeting on the Business Concept Competition”.  At approximately 7:45 pm, the Morgan Center staff will explain the procedures of the Competition, the prizes that are available, and the possibility of competing with six other university winners for the grand prize.  Should you have an idea that you would like to present, please attend this meeting to find out when, where, and how this competition will be held.

February 14th, at 6:30 pm, the Morgan Center staff along with Small Business Development and others will hold Business Concept Coaching Sessions with those interested in entering the competition.  These sessions will be one-on-one behind closed doors to assist you with your idea of the composition of your thoughts in writing for the competition.  There will be various locations available throughout Dauch – watch for the signs and sign up to meet with a coach.

February 21st, at 6:30 pm, the Morgan Center staff along with Small Business Development and others will hold Business Concept Coaching Sessions with those interested in entering the competition.  These sessions will be one-on-one behind closed doors to assist you with your idea of the composition of your thoughts in writing for the competition.  There will be various locations available throughout Dauch – watch for the signs and sign up to meet with a coach. This will be your last chance to seek assistance with your idea prior to the entry into the competition.

Another “Meet the Entrepreneur Night” will be held at 6:30 pm on February 26th in the Ridenour Center. Business Concept Idea essays are to be submitted to the Morgan Center for Entrepreneurial Studies by 5 pm on February 28th in room 112 or room 109 of Dauch College.

On February 29th, judges will review the entries to the Business Concept Competition and select the semi-finalist.  Those that are selected for semi-finalist will be notified by March 5th.

March 19th at 6:30 pm, final judging of the semi-finalist entered in the Business Concept Competition will begin.  Preparation room is room 104 with the Presentation to judges being conducted in room 105 of the Dauch College.  Winners will be announced on March 24th.

March 24th will be the Business Concept Awards ceremony in the Ridenour Center.  Time will be announced.  Each semi-finalist will give a two minute elevator speech about their business idea.  The award sponsors, Edward Jones, Bill Harris Auto Dealerships, and Lutz and Oxley Co., LPA will announce the first, second, and third place winners and present those winners with the awards.

April 7th is the LaunchTown Business Competition event where the AU Business Concept winner will compete with six other universities for the grand prize.  Presentations will begin at 5 pm at John Carroll University with the winner announced later in the evening.  Semi-finalist and any entrepreneur student are invited to attend as their will be venture and angel capitalist present.

April 18th, The Morgan Lecture will take place in the John C. Meyers Convocation Center at 11:30 am. The speaker will be announced soon.

May 1st, students for “Entrepreneur Education Immersion Week” selected.  Watch for details.

Business:

In February we will be presenting another HR Training session with Carol Nelson.  To be scheduled.

In April, the Morgan Center, the Manufacturing Competitive Initiative, and the Kehoe Center for Advanced Learning will be hosting a Richland County Manufacturing Fair.  Details will be provided soon.

The Morgan Center supports the manufacturers in Ashland and Richland County as well as area businesses.  The Morgan Center is available to assist with any type of workshops that may be applicable to the manufacturers and businesses. The Morgan Center staff are members of the Ashland Small Manufacturers Council and the Richland Manufacturing Coalition.  Please contact our office at 419-207-6976 for any type of business consultation.
