July 14-18

The Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Ashland University is hosting the 2008 Young Entrepreneurs @ Ashland (YEA)Camp from July 14 through 18, 2008.  This is a week long day camp that provides a hands-on, academic enrichment program in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Business Expertise.  This camp is offered to students entering eighth through twelfth grade.

YEA Camp students will experience simulated stock trading and development of stock portfolios on the stock exchange, conduct e-commerce transactions, practice developing new ideas and strategies, engage in product development from ideation to fabrication, develop marketing and sales techniques using video and computer generation materials, explore ethics and standards in business law, learn resume writing techniques and highlights, and enhance leadership and management skills.

The YEA students will visit businesses to learn about products and be given a real business problem to solve.  They will

reach out to senior citizens to create products that can assist the seniors.  Students will be exposed to entrepreneurs to hear the experiences of those entrepreneurs in starting a business. YEA students will be exposed to proper dining etiquette.

Tuition for this week long day camp is $200 with family discounts for more than one student.  This tuition will cover all instruction, materials, and daily lunch. There are partial scholarships available.

EEC Immersion Week

August 10-15

Five Ashland University students from across campus will be selected to attend the EEC Immersion Week at John Carroll University from August 10-15, 2008.  Member Universities of the EEC include Ashland University, Baldwin Wallace College, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University, John Carroll University and the University of Akron.

The consortium of universities will select 35 students (from any discipline throughout their universities) to participate in an intensive week long entrepreneurship academy this summer from August 10-15 at John Carroll University.  The students will learn about various aspects of creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship by attending two sessions a day.

The students will live in a dormitory for a week and will immerse themselves in topics and share information with each other.  They will form teams and create a new product or service that has not been presented at any other competition.  At the end of the week they will present their idea and plan to a team of judges for prize money.

Last year’s Ashland University team developed a web based provider service which many of the judges felt was a very good project.  The students brought this project back to AU to continue with a business plan and to seek financing to make this concept a reality. The five students were David Dauch, Kristen Striker, Katie Moore, Brian Mozena and John Fox. Joe Fox has since joined the team. They have formed a company called Mozena, LLC.

For further information on the EEC Immersion Week either contact the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at 419-207-6976 or refer to the EEC website,  www.eecneohio.com.
