If you have successfully completed a four-year undergraduate degree and you are considering becoming a licensed teacher in the State of Ohio, then the Bachelor's Plus Teacher Licensure Program at Ashland University is the program for you.
Once you've narrowed down the licensure area you are interested in teaching, we will do an evaluation checksheet of your undergraduate transcripts to determine how many courses you will have to take to earn your teaching license.
Download and complete the following two forms and mail them, along with your official transcript, to the appropriate person at the Ashland University Center closest to you in Ashland, Columbus or Elyria. Refer to the Contacts page at the left.

The program averages 1-3 years to complete and at the end of the program you will have earned your initial two-year provisional Ohio teaching license. This is the same license that a regular four-year undergraduate education major would receive at the end of their program.
It is a graduate level program, and you will be taking a combination of undergraduate and graduate courses. If you decide to continue your education after receiving your teaching license by being admitted into an M.Ed. program, some of the graduate courses you take will count towards your M.Ed. degree.
Characteristics of a typical Bachelor's Plus student are as follows, but are not limited to:
- adults who hold full- or part-time jobs in areas other than education.
- adults who are looking to make a career change.
- adults who may or may not be able to take more than one or two courses a semester.
- adults who have had some kind of experience working with children (e.g. substitute teaching, youth programs, coaching, etc.)
- adults with families and children of their own.
