Testing Requirements



Praxis I
All students must satisfactorily complete one of the following assessments: 1) achieve an ACT composite score of 21 or higher or SAT composite score of 970 or higher, or 2) pass the Praxis I Test (Mathematics, Reading, and Written Communication) with a score of 172. (Note: computer based score and paper based score are the same.) This must be completed before or during the Educ. 230/236 or FCS 268 Field Experience. The College will provide tutoring for students who have not passed one or more of the sections of the Praxis I Test and desire assistance in preparation for re-taking the Praxis I.

Praxis II
All Teacher Education students must take the Praxis II (National Teachers Exams) which are required by the Ohio Department of Education and Certification at this time. Typically these tests are taken sometime during the final three semesters. All students must receive the minimum Ohio qualifying test score on the Principles of Learning and Teaching test appropriate to their license. Every Teacher Education student shall also take all appropriate Specialty Area Tests (Praxis II) in their area(s) of teacher licensure such as: Elementary, Reading, Social Studies, Intervention Specialist, etc. On the appropriate Specialty Area Test(s), the minimum qualifying score for Ohio is required. All scores must be received by the Teacher Licensure Department at Ashland University before your teaching license(s) will be issued to you.
