Recreation | Internship/Field Experience Requirements

Internship/Field Experience Requirements

REC 168 Prerequisites:

  1. Be enrolled in or have taken REC 161.
  2. Contact your advisor and the Internship Coordinator to discuss your goals and objectives of this field experience and to identify potential sites and locations.
  3. Agency is an approved site by the Internship Coordinator.
  4. First Aid and CPR certified.
  5. Professional Liability Insurance (see Internship Coordinator for Application).

REC 238 Prerequisites:

  1. Maintenance of 2.25 cumulative, a 2.25 in all classes required of the major (C or better), and a 2.25 in all completed recreation classes (transcript verification).
  2. Completion of REC 161, 163, & 168.
  3. Application to the Major must be submitted and student must be accepted. Each semester the Internship Coordinator will set a deadline for application.
  4. Completion of 50 hours of paid or unpaid experiential work with people in leisure settings providing recreation and/or therapeutic recreation services.
  5. Agency is an approved site by the Internship Coordinator.
  6. First Aid and CPR certified.
  7. Professional Liability Insurance (see Internship Coordinator for Application).

REC 450 Prerequisites:

  1. Maintenance of 2.25 cumulative, a 2.25 in all classes required of the major (C or better), and a 2.25 in all completed recreation classes (transcript verification).
  2. Senior Status.
  3. Completion of 500 hours of paid or unpaid experiential work with people in leisure settings providing recreation/therapeutic recreation services in the previous 3 years.
  4. Application approval the semester before enrollment. Each semester the Internship Coordinator will set a deadline for application.
  5. Join one professional organization on the national, regional, or state level (verification provided).
  6. Placement at an approved agency site with a qualified supervisor. (TR students will follow NCTRC guidelines.)
  7. "Exchange of Service Agreement" and "Clinical Fieldwork Data" needs to be completed and signed before start of internship.
  8. First Aid and CPR certified.
  9. Professional Liability Insurance (see Internship Coordinator for Application).
