Studying outside of the classroom
Faculty-Led Domestic Programs
Ashland University faculty develop one-to-two-week academic, credit-bearing experiences that introduce students to different cultures and geographic areas of the United States. Previous programs have included a College of Education tour to Boston and a Religion Department Civil Rights tour to Mississippi.
Semester, Summer and Academic-Year Programs
Through its membership in College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS), Ashland University offers a broad range of courses, easy academic credit transfer, reasonable program costs and access to student services. These programs give you the opportunity to study at a variety of institutions around the world. Though most classes are taught in English, language study is also available. Visit CCIS for more information.
Additional Study Abroad Options
Intensive Language Study
The Department of Foreign Languages coordinates a study program for intensive Spanish language study (FL 200 and FL 300) that is specifically designed to provide students with an immersion experience. Students receive six hours of language instruction per day at the UNIVAC Language Center in Cuernavaca, Mexico. For additional cultural experiences, students participate in excursions and live with Mexican families. Most programs last four weeks, earning six hours of credit.
Overseas Student Teaching
The College of Education offers a program that allows pre-service teachers the opportunity to complete part of their student teaching requirement internationally. Student teaching abroad offers a unique opportunity for students to expand their multicultural awareness and understanding. Ashland University is a member institution of COST, the Consortium of Overseas Student Teaching. The first six weeks of student teaching are spent in Ohio. The next seven weeks are spent at a COST program site overseas.
Faculty-Developed, Short-Term Programs

Past programs have traveled to Austria, Belgium, China, Costa Rica, Cuba, England, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Spain and South Africa.
