Unique Values of the Core
At Ashland, values are not electives. The inclusion of ethical and religious elements in the core at Ashland fosters the development of a wise person who must also be a moral person. The core of liberal education is of decisive important for the moral development of students, and reflection on values is embedded in most core courses.

Ashland University’s core curriculum, consistent with the liberal arts, seeks to develop wisdom and transferable, lifelong skills. Through 11 subject areas and a variety of teaching formats, the core prepares students to think with reason, act with skill and live with values.
