Outside Scholarships

Ashland University intends to give students who receive an outside scholarship the maximum benefit possible. Students are required to report to the Financial Aid Office, in writing, the name of the scholarship and the amount awarded for each academic year as soon as the student becomes aware of his/her eligibility for the outside award. The outside grant or scholarship will be added to the other aid the student is entitled to, as long as total financial aid does not exceed a student’s need or cost of attendance.

Your outside scholarship search for the following academic year should start in the fall. Some helpful websites for national scholarship searches are www.finaid.org, www.fastweb.com and www.collegeboard.com. You should also check with your hometown’s Chamber of Commerce, Education Foundations, City Hall or even with your high school’s guidance counselor to learn about local sources of funding. Below is a list of outside scholarship sources that have been sent to Ashland University to disseminate to our students.

Scholarship Description:

The Navy Health Services Collegiate Program (HSCP) is a program that
provides students with up to $42,000 to cover college costs, living
expenses or spend any way they see fit. In return, upon graduation,
they'll take on the prestige of a commissioned Navy Officer with a lead
role in their chosen health care specialty. Students must have a grade
point average of 3.0 or higher and be working toward a degree as a
dentist, environmental health specialist, health care administrator,
industrial hygienist, optometrist, physicians assistant, physical
therapist, pharmacist or occupational therapist. For more information

Scholarship Description:

The Navy Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program (BDCP) provides
qualified students who meet the Navy's physical requirements with up to
$54,000 to complete their education. The money is sent directly to the
student to spend on tuition, room and board, books, even purchasing a
computer or repairing a car. Students in the Navy BDCP experience
college just as any other student does. No military requirements

The National Scholars Honor Society is an academic honors
organization dedicated to actively encouraging, recognizing, and
rewarding high academic achievement in all areas of study. The Society
strives to reward and encourage personal growth and development, as well

nation. Our members include thousands of America's brightest minds and
top achievers in the Arts, the Sciences, Business, Medicine, Law, and

The National Federation of Republican Women established the national
Pathfinder Scholarship Fund in 1985 in honor of First Lady Nancy
Reagan. The three annual scholarships of $2,500 each are available to
provide financial assistance and support to young women seeking
undergraduate or postgraduate degrees. College sophomores, junior, and
seniors, and students enrolled in a Masters Program are eligible. Recent
high school graduates and first year college women are not eligible to
apply for the scholarship. Scholarship winners may not reapply.
Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office. Note:
Applications must be submitted to your State Federation President by
June1. Each president will choose one application from her state to
submit to NFRW. Any questions concerning this process should be directed
to your state federation or to NFRW (703/548-9688). The scholarship
winners will be chosen by the NFRW Executive Committee.

The National Federation of the Blind and Ohio Affiliate
Scholarships-The NFB is offering scholarships of $2,500 to $12,000 to
full-time and part-time legally blind students. The Ohio Affiliate is
offering $1,000 to $10,000 scholarships. Applications are available at www.nfb.org/scholarships. The deadline for the NFB scholarship is March 31 and the Ohio Affiliate Scholarship deadline is March 31.

The Miss Ashland/Miss Ashland County Scholarship Programs No entry
fees. Every contestant earns scholarship money. Miss Ashland and Miss
Ashland County each receive a minimum of $1,000 cash scholarship plus a
$1,000 renewable Ashland University Scholarship. Contact the Executive

The Mary Elizabeth Keller Scholarship Fund - Applicants need to be
current college sophomores or juniors, preparing for a career in the
education profession. Applicants must be residents of Lorain County
and/or must have graduated from any high school in Lorain County.

The Jennings Foundation Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Scholarship is for students who already have a BA/BS degree and are pursuing teacher certification/licensure only or in conjunction with a Masters degree in education. The Foundation of the National Student Nurses' Association, Inc
Awards range from $1000 to $5000 for undergraduate students who are
pursuing their first degree in nursing. Applications may be downloaded

The College Club of Canton-Ruth Wolter Graduate Award Loan-The
College Club of Canton is offering interest free loans unless defaulted
for women who are within eighteen months of completing a graduate
degree, advanced study and/or research from the date the loan in
granted. The applicant must be a citizen of the U.S., a resident of
Stark County, show career motivation, demonstrate financial need,
demonstrate academic excellence, maturity, and seriousness of purpose,
have clearly defined career objectives, and have a Baccalaureate Degree
or equivalent. The loan amounts are $1,500 per recipient per academic

The Cleveland Advertising Association Scholarship - Scholarship money is available for students who: Are enrolled in their senior or junior year, or the final semester of their sophomore years, carry a full course-load, maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, live in Ohio, attend an Ohio college or university, are pursuing a communications/marketing-related major. The Central Ohio Mineral, Fossil, Gem and Jewelry Show will offer a
scholarship for the school year to a deserving student of the earth
sciences. It holds an annual minimum of $1,000. This Gem and Jewelry
Show is an annual show held in the spring in Columbus, Ohio, and its
purpose is to educate the general public and promote the encouragement
of careers in the earth sciences. Students must be a junior, senior,
fifth year, or graduate student majoring in geology or earth science
education. Student must also be an Ohio resident. Applications are

Stark County Retired Teachers Association is offering six $1000
scholarships to be given to college students who will be juniors or
seniors in the field of Education this fall and who have graduated from a
high school within Stark County. This is a yearly scholarship and new

Spencer Foundation Dissertation Fellowship for Research Related to
Education- some 30 Fellowships of $20,000 are awarded each year to
support doctoral candidates in a variety of fields whose dissertations
promise to contribute fresh perspectives to the history, theory, or
