Ashland University students have the opportunity to earn funds to put toward their study abroad experience by participating in the Ambassador Program or applying for a Global Education Grant. The Global Education Office also provides students with resources for scholarships, financial aid and other financing options!
AU Ambassador Program
The Ambassador Program is a partnership between the Global Education Office and International Student Services. Each year, students come from all over the world to study at Ashland University. At times, it is difficult for international students to adjust and feel at home. Ambassadors are American AU students who are matched with an international student and spend time with them each week. For each semester that a student is an Ambassador, s/he earns Global Education grant money to put toward a future study abroad experience.
Global Education Grants
Ashland University encourages and supports students who wish to add a credit-bearing global dimension to their academic program. A limited number of grants are available to qualified students on a competitive basis. Most are awarded based on a combination of financial need and academic achievement.
The Global Education Office has compiled an extensive database of external scholarships offered to students interested in studying abroad. Typically, for a study abroad experience to qualify for these scholarships, the student must earn at least six credits.
Federal and State Aid may be available for study abroad if: you are eligible for aid, the study abroad program meets established criteria and the Registrar has pre-approved the credits. Gift Aid: Federal Pell Grant (need-based); Ohio Opportunity Grant (need-based); Global Education Grants. Loans: Federal Stafford Loans; Parent Loans for undergrad students; Private Alternative loans. Private educational loans are available from numerous lenders.
Exploring creative fundraisers is worthwhile. Students have earned $200-$2,500 by selling homemade items or hosting a fundraising event.
