Graduate in four years or we cover the cost for the extra time

As tuition costs continue to rise, many families are trying to figure out how to finance their children's education. Ashland University is looking to help and is promising that if you don't finish in four years, we’ll pay up to an additional year of tuition for the extra time it takes you to finish – as long as you stick to your graduation plan.
College is one of the most significant investments a family will make and we believe we can help make this more affordable through this guarantee. This program – one of the first of its kind in northeast Ohio – will start with the 2012 incoming freshman class at Ashland.
This guarantee, however, does not apply to students who elect to extend their studies beyond eight semesters to take advantage of research, license, endorsement and/or minor program opportunities.
A number of conditions need to be met in order to qualify for the Four-Year Graduate Guarantee, and are listed below.

1
Attend Ashland University for eight consecutive semesters (not including summer), completing at least 15 semester hours per semester excluding remedial courses.
2
Complete the Four Year Graduation Guarantee Application Form before you start your first semester at Ashland University. The form is available through the Registrar’s Office.
3
Declare and verify a major by the end of the freshmen year by filing a Declaration of Major Program form with the Registrar’s Office.
4
Once a declaration of major is made you must follow the prescribed four year plan. If you change your major, the guarantee no longer applies.
5
Remain in good academic standing (institutional - 2.0 GPA, major - 2.25 GPA) at the University.
6
Meet with your faculty advisor prior to registration each semester to review your course plan and monitor your progress.
7
Meet with your college’s professional advisor at least once a year to review your course plan and monitor your progress.
8
Register for courses during the assigned registration period. Enroll in available courses needed for the program of study; accept any available section that can be accommodated in your course schedule. Sole exceptions: Students who are on Study Abroad or off campus participating in a full-time field experience or co-op may require additional days to register.
9
Make timely annual application for all necessary financial assistance, to avoid registration problems.
10
Apply for graduation by the deadline published in the academic and/or term calendars.
11
Monitor your own progress toward degree using the electronic degree audit check system, and confer with the University Registrar for verification of credit given for any transfer courses.
12
Notify your faculty advisor and college professional advisor if you are unable to register for a required course needed in the major or for graduation.
13
Permit the University to notify your parents/guardians of your grades and academic records by signing a FERPA waiver.
14
Avoid any academic or judicial suspension or action that delays graduation.
In addition to these conditions, the five-year programs and some licensure programs are excluded from the Four-Year Degree Guarantee. The Four-Year Degree Guarantee may not be applicable if a student elects certain second or third majors requiring coursework beyond what can be reasonably accommodated within a four-year period, or elect to defer graduation to allow athletic participation in a fifth academic year.

What happens when I meet the conditions, but courses are unavailable?

If a student meets all the conditions of the four-year plan but is unable to graduate due to unavailability of courses, the University will offer one of the following, at its discretion:
- 1. Enable the student to graduate in four years by substituting courses as determined by the department and college offering the student’s major.
- 2. Allow the unavailability of courses to delay the student from graduation in four years, in which case the University will waive Ashland University tuition and mandatory fees in order for the student to graduate within the next academic year.
