Women’s Golf Team Fifth in Opener

The Ashland University women’s golf team opened the 2002 season by placing fifth Monday (Sept. 9) at the All-Ohio Invitational held at Ashland’s Brookside Golf Course.

Dayton (309) led the six-team field. Cleveland State (337) was the runnerup and Tiffin (341) was third. AU shot 370.

Dayton took the top two spots in the individual standings. Brett Johnson shot 75 to take medalist honors. Her teammate, Melissa Juve and Cleveland State’s Carma Rieck tied for second at 76.

Ashland was paced by sophomore Amy Sims, who was eighth. She shot 83. Freshman Nicole Cespedes finished in a tie for 12th (87).
