The Ashland University mens golf
team went to Allendale, MI this weekend (Oct. 5-6) hoping to
repeat the Cinderella performance of a year ago. Unfortunately for
the Eagles, the slipper didnt fit.
The Eagles finished seventh out of 12 teams at
the 2002 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
championships held Saturday-Sunday at The Meadows Golf Course on
the campus of Grand Valley State University. Northwood shot 908 to
win the conference championship. Grand Valley State (912) was the
runnerup.
A year ago when the tourney was held in Ashland
the Eagles led after the first day and finished a surprising
second. This year, AU finished in the middle of the pack, shooting
962.
Northwoods Justin Holyszko shot
two-under-par 214 to win medalist honors. No one really pushed him
for the top honor, Grand Valleys Kevin Kremer was second at
225.
Junior Bryan Brzozowski and freshman
Zack Shafer finished in a three-way tie for 23rd. Both
Eagles shot 238. Senior Matt Marino was just behind those
two at 239. |
