October 19, 2002

The Ashland University men’s soccer team defeated the Walsh Cavaliers 2-1 in overtime on Saturday, October 19 in North Canton, OH.

Junior Marko Raduka scored the game-winning goal as he headed a ball to the back of the net off a Ben Walker throw-in with 10 seconds remaining in overtime. The goal was Raduka’s sixth on the season and places him third on the team in goals scored.

Walsh jumped out to a 1-0 when Tyler Kirkpatrick off a Nick Shundry pass at the 10-minute mark. The Cavaliers took the lead going into halftime.

Junior Nate Stocum scored on a pass from Raduka at 78:58 to tie the match at 1-1. It was Stocum’s seventh goal of the season, which is second on the team.

“It was a very hard game, and Walsh is the type of team that will frustrate and challenge you. It was their homecoming so they were ready to play, and we didn’t play fantastic, but we were able to pull away with a win. We played good considering the conditions, which were a sloppy and muddy playing field,” said head coach John Hall

Ashland improves their record to 9-4-1 while Walsh falls to 5-11.

The Eagles will be back in action on Monday, October 21 as they face District of Columbia at the AU Soccer Complex at 2 p.m. It will be Ashland’s last home game of the season.
