November 20, 2002

The Ashland University basketball program received some good news this week when 6-2 point guard Vahn Knight announced that he will attend the university in the fall and play basketball. A native of Cleveland, OH, Knight is a senior at Benedictine High School.

As a junior, Knight averaged 10.0 ppg., 4.0 apg., 4.0 rpg., and 3.0 spg.

“We’re very pleased he selected Ashland University,” said AU head coach Roger Lyons. “He comes from a good high school program and that means a lot to us.”
“He’s one of the most improved players I’ve ever coached in my career,” said Benedictine coach Bob Patton. “He’s just started to fill out and he’s grown about two inches in the last year. I think he’ll be a great addition for the Ashland program. We run the same system Roger runs and I think he’ll be a great fit. I’m happy for his family and I’m happy for him.”

Ashland University is an NCAA Division II institution that competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Eagles were 18-9 last season and have won 18 or more games in four of the last five seasons.
