Cordes Shares National Runner of the Year Award

Ashland University senior Nick Cordes and senior Zeph Joseph of North Florida were named co-winners of the NCAA Division II male runner of the year Friday night (Nov. 22) at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Hall of Fame banquet.

The banquet was held at Ashland University’s John C. Myers Convocation Center. AU is the host for this year’s NCAA Division II national championships, which will be held on Saturday (Nov. 23, 1 p.m.) at Brookside Golf Course.

Earlier this year, Cordes was recognized as the Great Lakes region male runner of the year for the second time in his career. Cordes is the lone AU male runner competing at the national championship meet. This is his second appearance at cross country nationals. He placed 16th in 2000. Cordes was redshirted during the 2001 cross country season.

Senior Zoila Gomez of Adams State was cited as the 2002 female runner of the year.
