Edwards had 18 points, six assists, three steals and four rebounds in Saturday’s win. He was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

The Eagles are 2-0 on the young season and will play their next five games at home. Saturday’s point total is AU’s highest since the Eagles scored 123 points in a 130-123 double-overtime loss at Bellarmine during the 1993-94 season.

In addition to Kincaid and Edwards, four other Eagles reached double digits in scoring. Freshman guard Chris Steens came off the bench to fire in 16 points, hitting seven of 11 shots from the floor. Sophomore center Mike Campbell had 13 points and hauled down 17 rebounds. Senior guard Tom Church had 11 points and senior forward Justin Larrick had 10 points and six rebounds.

Ashland led at the intermission, 48-38. Bellarmine had a 94-91 lead with 7.5 seconds left in regulation when Kincaid buried a three-pointer to knot the score at 94-94.

Both teams scored 10 points in the first extra session. Bellarmine had a 104-100 led with 2:12 left in the first overtime. Senior forward Pat Rush hit a 15-footer with two minutes left to make it 104-102 and two Edwards free throws with one second left in overtime made it 104-104 and extended the game into the second overtime.

The Eagles took the lead for good, 116-115 with 26.5 seconds left in the second overtime on a driving layup by Larrick. AU’s last four points all came on free throws by Edwards.

AU shot 54 percent from the field (47-87) and 77.3 percent (17-22) from the free throw line. The teams were even on the glass, 46-46. Both teams were careful with the basketball. Through two overtimes, AU had 13 turnovers and Bellarmine gave the ball away 14 times.

Justin Cornell’s 27 points paced the home team. Adam Etienne had 26 points.
