Freshman guard Chris Steens came off the bench to fire in a team-high 17 points and sophomore center Mike Campbell had 10 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots as Ashland (3-0) ran away from Malone (4-2), 98-69 Tuesday night (Nov. 26) at Kates Gymnasium. This was Ashland’s home opener and the first of five consecutive games at AU.

Steens was one of five AU players to reach double digits. He hit five of seven shots from the floor, two of five from three-point range. AU was never in trouble, going in front, 51-30 at halftime. Ashland shot 50.7 percent from the floor (38-75) and forced the Pioneers into 24 turnovers. AU had 26 points off of turnovers and led in fastbreak points, 16-6.

Senior guard Isaac Kincaid, who leads AU in scoring at 23.0 ppg., had 13 points. Senior point guard Angelo Edwards had 14 points and five assists. Senior forward Justin Larrick added 10 points.

Tim LaFleur’s 18 points led Malone.

The Eagles are averaging 100.0 ppg. and shooting 49.8 percent from the field. AU has forced 60 turnovers and has given the ball away 33 times.

Ashland’s next game is Saturday (Nov. 30) against West Virginia Wesleyan. The game with the Bearcats will tip off at 7:30 p.m.
