Postseason Football Awards Continue for Wellock

Ashland University freshman kicker Austin Wellock’s football season isn’t complete yet. The Eagles’ rookie kicker may not be playing in any more games this year, but the rewards from the 2002 season keep rolling in.

Wellock, a first team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference pick, got some good news this week when he was named as an honorable mention All-America by D2Football.com.

Wellock led the GLIAC in field goals this season. He hit 15 of 19 field goals tries and connected on 16-17 extra point attempts. Wellock tied an NCAA Division II record when he kicked six field goals in AU’s 25-10 win at Wayne State. His 61 points scored led the Eagles.

The Ashland kicker has also been nominated for the Daktronics all-region team. Players who are named first team all-region will move on to the national Daktronics All-America ballot.
