The Ashland University women’s basketball team saw its record dip to 7-4 Saturday (Dec. 28) with a 78-75 setback at the University of Charleston (WV). The Eagles have lost two of their last three outings. All three of those games have been decided by four points or less.

AU was down by two points, 39-37 at halftime. The Eagles enjoyed a 33-23 advantage on the glass and forced 19 turnovers (AU had 15). But the home team shot 53 percent (28-53) from the floor, 59 percent (13-22) in the second half. Charleston featured a balanced attack – five players reached double figures in scoring. Lisa Lee was the leader in that scoring parade with 16 points.

AU junior forward Alanna Buurma had 18 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Isolina Brescia added 15 points.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 2, with a game at Northern Michigan. That marks a return to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play where AU is 2-0.
