The Ashland University womens
basketball team saw its record dip to 7-4 Saturday (Dec. 28) with
a 78-75 setback at the University of Charleston (WV). The Eagles
have lost two of their last three outings. All three of those
games have been decided by four points or less.
AU was down by two points, 39-37 at halftime.
The Eagles enjoyed a 33-23 advantage on the glass and forced 19
turnovers (AU had 15). But the home team shot 53 percent (28-53)
from the floor, 59 percent (13-22) in the second half. Charleston
featured a balanced attack five players reached double
figures in scoring. Lisa Lee was the leader in that scoring parade
with 16 points.
AU junior forward Alanna Buurma had 18
points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Isolina Brescia
added 15 points.
The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday,
Jan. 2, with a game at Northern Michigan. That marks a return to
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play where AU is
2-0.
