Special Events Scheduled By AU Athletics This Week

The Ashland University athletic department has scheduled a number of special events surrounding the home basketball games that will be played at Kates Gymnasium this week. Additionally, the nationally-ranked AU wrestling team will be home twice this week and one of those dates is the 14th Annual Wendy’s Classic Duals.

Men’s and Women’s Basketball
The Eagles will play a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheaders this week at Kates Gymnasium. On Thursday, Jan. 9, Grand Valley State comes to town. The women’s game will tip off at 5:30 p.m., with the men’s game to follow at 7:30 p.m. NCAA mascot J.J. Jumper will be a guest at the game. He will distribute t-shirts and pom poms to all fans and sign autographs between games.

Ferris State will invade Kates Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 11. The women’s game will start at 1 p.m., with the men’s contest to follow at 3 p.m. This date is the highly-popular “Take a Kid To a Game Day.” There is no admission for children ages 12 and under. All adults who attend the game with children will receive half price admission. All children 12 and under will receive a free J.J. Jumper height chart. The St. Andrews Viking Magic will perform at halftime of both contests.

Wrestling
On Wednesday, Jan. 8, the Eagles will host Gannon at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Jan. 12, the Wendy’s Classic comes to town. This is an eight-team event that’s filled with Division I schools. In addition to outstanding wrestling, the day is filled with a number of unique promotions, including the French Fry Toss and the Coaches Chowdown.
