While they might not have been the knights of
the round table, Gannon proved to be rulers of its own court.
The Golden Knights led by Katie Garms 21
points downed Ashland, 81-71, at Kates Gymnasium on Thursday (Jan.
30, 2003).
Gannon improved its record to 8-11, 4-7 in
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action while the
Eagles dropped to 8-12, 3-8 in the conference. AU has lost nine of
its last 10 games.
Garms dominated the Eagles in the paint,
hitting 10 of 16 shots while pulling down five rebounds. Tiffany
Jones and Kelly Irwin each added 13 points in the winning effort.
Jen Gwin, the leader of the GU offense, added
eight points and tied a career-high with distributing 12 assists.
AU had four players in double figures with
junior Beth Everman leading the way with 17 points and seven
rebounds. Alanna Buurma contributed with 15 points and senior
Kristy Ritchie had an impressive all-around game with 14 points,
eight assists, four steals and two rebounds.
Junior Isolina Brescia added 12 points and
three assists while Kyra Gross scored nine points and pulled down
three rebounds.
The Eagles didnt get much help from their
reserves as they were outscored 27-4 on the bench.
Ashland will return to action on Saturday (Feb.
1, 2003) as they take on Mercyhurst with game time set for 1 p.m.
