The Ashland University womens
basketball team has no fear of the unknown.
The Eagles stepped out of Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Tuesday (Feb. 4),
visiting Oakland City (IN) where they came away with a 72-59
triumph. The victory ended a four-game losing streak and improved
AUs record to 9-13.
Three AU players reached double digits in
scoring. Junior forward Alanna Buurma and sophomore guard
Angie Heintz had 16 points each. For Heintz that was a
career high. She hit six of 13 shots from the floor. Heintz pulled
down seven rebounds, one less than Buurma, the team leader with
eight boards. Heintz had four assists and Buurma rejected three
shots.
The Eagles also got 12 points from sophomore
guard-forward Beth Everman.
In recent games, turnovers had been a problem
for the Eagles. Against Oakland City, the Eagles did a much better
job protecting the basketball. AU was charged with 16 turnovers.
The home team gave the ball away 21 times.
Ashland returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 8),
paying a visit to Findlay.
