AU Women’s Basketball Adds Two Recruits
February 10, 2003

Ashland University head women’s basketball coach Sue Ramsey may be in the midst of her Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t thinking about next season.

The Eagles added some help for the future recently when two top recruits – Jennifer Miday (North Canton, OH/North Canton Hoover) and Melissa Howe (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard-Davidson) – announced that they will attend the university beginning with the fall, 2003 semester.

Miday is a 6-0 small forward. She was a member of the 2001-2002 Division I state championship team. Miday is a versatile player who could thrive inside or on the perimeter.

“Jen will fit perfectly into our system both on and off the court,” said Ramsey. “She comes from a very successful high school program that emphasizes defense. Her size and athleticism give her the ability to match up well both inside and outside in our conference.”

Miday is the owner of a 3.325 grade point average. She plans to major in education.

Howe is a 5-7 shooting guard who can also run the point. She averaged 13.0 ppg., as a junior. During her career, she’s been an all-conference selection. Howe’s also flourished as an outside hitter in volleyball.

“Melissa is a wonderful young lady and has helped to set a new standard for girls basketball at Davdison,” said Hilliard-Davidson coach Kathy Lindsey. “She is a very hard worker in the classroom and on the basketball court. She will be a fine addition to the Ashland women’s basketball program.”
“Melissa will give us depth in our guard position with great shooting from long range and the ability to run the floor,” said Ramsey. “She has a strong understanding of the game with quality high school coaching.”

Like Miday, Howe is an exceptional student. She has a 3.7 grade point average and is interested in physical therapy.

Ashland is an NCAA Division II institution. The GLIAC consists of teams in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan.
