Theres usually two Ks
in Skibinski. Monday, there were 12.
Senior Chris Skibinski struck out 12
batters in six innings of work Monday (Mar. 10) in Fort Myers, FL,
as the Ashland University baseball team clipped Teikyo-Post (CT),
14-1.
Not only did Skibinski reach double digits in
strikeouts, he gave the pitching staff a much-needed break. By
lasting six innings, Skibinski gave the AU bullpen a rest. That
should help the Eagles on Tuesday (Mar. 11) when they play a
doubleheader against Southwest State (MN). In six innings,
Skibinski gave up one run on four hits.
Sophomore righty Justin Halpin relieved
Skibinski and gave up one hit over two innings. Freshman Jim
Barry, another righthander, pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
Sophomore outfielder Richie Jones was
3-for-5 with a double and a pair of RBI. Junior outfielder Bradon
Cornell was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI and freshman
outfielder David Waters was 2-for-3 with two doubles and
two RBI.
Ashland trailed, 1-0 going into the fifth
inning. The Eagles took control of the game by scoring eight times
in the fifth. All of those runs came with two outs. Four more runs
in the eighth inning put the game away. |
