The Ashland University football
program recently added five student-athletes to the roster. The
newcomers will begin their college careers in the fall.
AU now has 17 student-athletes on its 2003
recruiting list. Biographical information on the five new
additions can be found below.
Christopher Baker (Mansfield, OH/Ontario)
Baker will be asked to bolster the defensive line. The 6-2,
270-pound Baker could play several spots along the line. During
his prep career, he posted 8.5 sacks and 100 career tackles.
Ontario won one conference crown during his tenure.
Baker earned three letters in football and four
in track and field. He throws the shot and discus in track. A year
ago, he threw the shot 160 feet.
Josh Brenning (Elyria, OH/Elyria Catholic)
The 6-7, 255-pound Brenning is a highly decorated offensive
lineman. Hes a first team all-conference and first team
All-Lorain County all-star. He was a district first team pick and
the teams most valuable offensive lineman. Brenning earned
three letters during his gridiron career. His final season he was
All-Ohio special mention Division IV.
Brenning also earned two letters in basketball
and two in track and field. As a senior, he was first team
all-conference and all-county and second team all-district. He was
honorable mention all-state.
Devin Conwell (Baltimore, MD/Long Reach)
Conwell fits into the Eagles plans as a linebacker. The
6-1, 205-pound Conwell has been all-county in football and
basketball. During his career, he was the teams defensive
player of the year. As a junior, he excelled at running back where
he rushed for 1,094 yards and 13 touchdowns. He had 105 tackles.
Antwan Hart (Detroit, MI/Northwestern)
AU has openings at running back and Hart may be able to fill
one of those spots. The 6-0, 193-pound Hart was first team
all-city, second team All-Metro and third team all-state. He
earned three letters apiece in football and baseball.
Demario Springfield-Spivey (Maple Heights,
OH) The 5-10, 175-pound Springfield-Spivey will play
cornerback for the Eagles. He earned two letters for the Mustangs.
During his career, he was first team all-conference and second
team all-district. In 2002 he played on a team that went 7-4, the
schools best record in 47 years.
Ashland University is an NCAA Division II
institution that competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference. |
