MC Hammer wasn’t around to sing “U Can’t Touch This” or “Too Legit Too Quit” – but it seemed as though the Eagles were singing one of his tunes, “This is the Way We Roll” in their second game of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.

AU rolled their way to the loser’s bracket finals with a 17-2 thrashing of the Hillsdale Chargers on Friday (May 9) at Grand Valley State in Allendale, MI.

Earlier in the season, the Eagles dropped three out of four games to the Chargers and only scored 11 runs during the four-game series. They surpassed that total by the sixth inning on Friday.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after two innings and knocked Hillsdale starter Corey Krug (7-1) after 1.1 innings. Krug allowed six runs on six hits in his mound action.

AU added three runs in the sixth, four in the seventh and three more in the eighth for the victory. Offensively, the Eagles had more than their share of stars for the day.

Bryce Bednarcyzk (Hebron, OH/CSCC) and Chris Skibinski (Schererville, IN/Seton La Salle) led the Eagles with three hits apiece. Bednarcyzk added a double and an RBI while Skibinski scored two runs.

Brock Wiskochil (Holland, OH/CSCC) added two hits, three runs and three RBI for the Eagles. He also launched his third home run of the season. Butch Kaufman (Galloway, OH/CSCC) also drilled a three-run home run. It was his third of the season.

Tim Hinchliffe (Ontario, Canada/Glen Oak CC) drilled two hits, including a double and two runs scored. Josh Gaub (Brunswick, OH) and Eric McDaniel (Curtice, OH/Owens CC) each added two hits apiece. Gaub scored two runs and knocked in two runs.

While it was a scoring frenzy on one side, Jon Krugman (Mason, OH/CSCC) kept the Charger bats in check as he threw eight innings, allowing nine hits and only giving up two runs. He struck out eight hitters on the day. His record improved to 8-3.

Ashland improved their record to 36-17-1 while Hillsdale ended its season at 24-20.

AU will face the loser of the Grand Valley State/Saginaw Valley State game on Saturday (May 10).
