Mens Season Update
Entering the first weekend of the season head mens golf
coach Ben Cavey is very open minded.
My expectations are not high and
theyre not low, said Cavey, who is in his first season
as golf coach at AU. You could say I have no expectations
since this is my first season.
Cavey expects senior Bryan Brzozowski
(Seven Hills, OH/Normandy) to lead the Eagles this season..
Brozozowski was a qualifier to the NCAA Division II Regional
Tournament last spring.
Cavey also points to sophomore Adam Hlivko
(Tallmadge, OH) and freshman Matt Gasser (New
Philadelphia, OH/Indian Valley South) to be players to watch
this season.
While Cavey believes that he has a good team,
there could be a problem with consistency.
Our inconsistencies could be a
negative or a positive, said Cavey. Well be
getting glimpses at some very good potential that we can develop.
Cavey believes the Eagles could finish among
the top three or four teams at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference tournament this season.
Womens Update
With more than half of the fall season complete, head golf coach
Steve Paramore said that there has been daily improvement
with his players.
The Eagles opened the season at Ferris State on
Aug. 30-31, and placed 15th out of 18 teams. Meghan Marks
(Upper Arlington, OH), a freshman, had the low score for AU.
Ashland then ventured to Grand Valley State on
Sept. 1-2, and placed 18th out of 18 teams. Marks once again had
the low score for the Eagles.
Our players have been improving,
said Paramore.
That improvement was seen at the John P. Speiss
Memorial in Wauseon, OH, on Sept. 8 where the Eagles placed third
of 12 teams in the tournament. Manchester won the tourney at 315,
+27) and Albion (342, +54) was second in the nine-team field. The
Eagles shot 351, +63.
Nicole Cespedes (Canton,OH/GlenOak)
had the low score for AU. The sophomore was seventh, shooting an
82 (+10). The medalist was Manchesters Jessica Strange
(77/+5).
Marks just missed a Top 10 placement, finishing
12th (85/+13).
The rest of the season well
work on practicing hard and then well begin working on
conditioning for the spring, said Paramore.
