AU Men’s Report
This season has had as many hills and dales as the local golf course for the Eagles.

Head coach Ben Cavey said there has been a couple more downs then ups this season for his team.

“We dig ourselves into a hole that we can’t climb out of and that really hurts our chances,” said Cavey.

Cavey also pointed to the fact that AU’s top five golfers haven’t all had a good round on the same day yet this season. But he hopes that AU’s luck changes next week at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament at Gannon, (Oct.6-8).

“We have a team that can contend if all of our golfers show up to golf on the same day,” said Cavey.

Ashland’s most recent competition was at the Northwood Invitational on Sept. 28. That event was held at the Currie Golf Club. Junior Kyle Swigart (Mansfield, OH/Madison) carded AU’s best score, shooting 151 and finishing in a tie for 10th. Northwood’s Justin Holyszko was the medalist at 143.

Other AU golfers to watch at the upcoming GLIAC event are senior Bryan Brzozowski (Seven Hills, OH/Normandy), senior Travis Hite (Milan, OH/Edison) and sophomore Adam Hlivko (Tallmadge, OH).

AU Women’s Report
The AU women had to face some tough opponents at Findlay’s William Bing Fall Classic (Sept. 28-29) and the toughest rival for the Eagles wasn’t a team, but the weather itself.

Head coach Steve Paramore said that the elements made the things a lot more difficult on his golfers since it was the first time they had faced bad weather this season as they went on to place seventh out of nine teams.

“The high winds and the cold hurt scores,” said Paramore.

The AU coach said that there has been much improvement as of late for his team.

“Everyone has been consistently shooting better scores,” said Paramore. “Everyone has been coming together as a team and improving.”

Sophomore Meghan Marks (Upper Arlington, OH) had the Eagles’ best score at Findlay, finishing in a tie for 23rd with a 173. Casey McKinnon of Ferris State and Kristi Vienneau of Grand Valley shared top individual honors at 154.

The Eagles end this fall season at Mercyhurst on Oct. 2. Paramore hopes to conclude the season on a high note and hopes that the youngsters on this year’s team can benefit from this learning experience.

“We want to have everyone end the season positively and have their best round be the last round of the season,” said Paramore.
