Both Ashland University cross country
teams had strong showings Friday (Oct. 10) at the All-Ohio
Intercollegiate Championships held at the Methodist Theological
School in Delaware, OH.
The Eagle men placed fourth overall and first
among NCAA Division II/NAIA entrants. The Eagles finished with 183
points. First place went to Kent State (49) and Cincinnati (59)
was the runnerup. Youngstown State (127) secured third place with
the Eagles in fourth and Ohio State (209) in fifth.
Senior Joe Soehnlen had AUs best
finish. He crossed the finish line in 11th place (26:35.9). Junior
Nate Iler was close behind in 14th place (26:41.0). Kent
State took the top two spots in the race. Junior Matt Cornwell won
in 25:49.4 and senior Pete Weisz was second in 25:58.8.
The AU women were 10th in the final team
standings with 312 points. That placed them second among NCAA
Division II/NAIA teams. Miami won the team title with 58 points
and Ohio State (65) claimed the runnerup spot. Akron (99) was
third, Kent State (118) fourth and Cincinnati (197) was fifth.
Ashlands top time was turned in by
sophomore Lisa Nell. She covered the 5K course in 19:33.0.
Sophomore Jessica Fleming was 49th in 19:38.5 and junior
Sherri Trent was 53rd in 19:44.2.
Andrea Kremer of Miami won the womens
race in 17:46.4. She was sixth a year ago. Kristin Wrede of Miami
(18:07.5) was the runnerup.
The mens field included 37 teams and 243
runners and the womens race featured 39 teams and 269
runners.
