AU Runners Sixth at Regional Cross Country Meet

Neither the Ashland University men’s or women’s cross country team could advance out of the regional championships on Saturday (Nov. 8). This year’s Great Lakes Regional Championships were hosted by Grand Valley State and both Laker teams moved on to nationals. Both AU teams placed sixth.

The men’s regional crown went to GVSU with 46 points. Wayne State (50) was second and both the Lakers and Warriors advance to nationals. Third place went to Hillsdale (93). Southern Indiana (141) was fourth, SIU-Edwardsville (157) was fifth and Ashland (158) was sixth.

Junior Nate Iler had the best finish for the Eagles. He was 13th in 32:12.5. First place went to Wayne State’s Nick Allen (31:29.1).

The GVSU women had 35 points. Northern Michigan (82) was second, Southern Indiana (96) was third and Wayne State (141) claimed fourth place. All four of those teams will head to the national meet. Hillsdale (158) was fifth and AU was in sixth place with 171 points.

Senior Erika Loomis crossed the finish line first for AU. She was 30th in 22:58.5. Junior Sherri Trent was 32nd (23:01.6) and sophomore Lisa Nell was 33rd (23:03.9). The top individual on the women’s side was Grand Valley State’s Natalie Ewing, who won in 21:31.3.
