Toure Carter

Ashland University senior defensive back Toure Carter named an All-America by the American Football Coaches Association.

Ashland University senior defensive back Toure Carter (Cleveland, OH/Rhoades) has been named an All-America by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

Carter is one of three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) players to make the team. The others are linebacker Kevin Myers of Ferris State and kicker David Hendrix of Grand Valley State.

Carter, a first team All-GLIAC selection, led the conference in interceptions (9). He tied a GLIAC record and set an Ashland University single game record this season when he picked off four passes against Northern Michigan. Carter ended the year with 61 tackles (37 solo) and four pass breakups. He had six tackles for loss (18 yards). He recovered one fumble and blocked one kick.

When he first arrived on campus, Carter was a running back. He displayed those skills again in his final season as he took some snaps on offense as a running back. Carter led the Eagles in kickoff returns, bringing back 10 kickoffs and averaging 29.8 ypr.

The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all four of its divisions. The teams are selected by coaches from around the country. The AFCA selects one All-America team per division, there are no second and third team selections.
