Ashland University cornerback Toure
Carter has been named a first team Small College Football
All-America by the Associated Press.
Carter, who led the Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference in interceptions (9) in 2003, is joined in the
secondary by Richard Colclough of Tusculum, Sam Lacy of Bethel
(MN) and Pierre Thomas of Missouri Western. Carter is the first AU
player to be a first team AP All-America since defensive lineman
Bill Royce in 1993.
Earlier this season Carter was named a first
team All-America by the American Football Coaches Association. On
Friday (Dec. 19), Carter also received word that he was named to
Daktronics first team all-region unit. Carters name now goes
to the national ballot. The Daktronics All-America team will be
announced in late December.
Carter is one of three GLIAC players to receive
first team AP laurels. The other two players are Grand Valley
State kicker David Hendrix and Ferris State linebacker Kevin
Myers.
The AP All-America team includes players from
NCAA Division II and III teams, plus players from NAIA
institutions.
