AU Women Up Record to 10-3
January 1, 2004

It may be a new year, but the Ashland University women’s basketball team is staying with an old, tried-and-true formula.

The Eagles won their third consecutive game and improved to 10-3 on New Year’s Day with a 78-71 win over Freed-Hardeman in the Monterey Bay Classic in California. The Monterey Bay Classic is being hosted by Cal State-Monterey Bay.

Ashland jumped out in front, 40-36 at halftime and never faltered after that. Junior center Jackie Mason had 16 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Eagles. Junior guard-forward Beth Everman and senior guard Isolina Brescia had 12 points apiece.

The Eagles shot 53 percent (31-59) from the floor and outrebounded Freed-Hardeman, 50-38. Defensively, the Eagles limited F-H to a 33 percent (26-80) shooting night from the field.

Jessica Wondard had 31 points and five steals for Freed-Hardeman.
