Eagles Women Go 2-0 on California Trip

The Ashland University women’s basketball team completed its swing through California with a 2-0 record thanks to an 89-61 triumph over Carroll College (WI) Friday (Jan. 2) at Cal State-Monterey Bay. The Eagles were playing in the Monterey Bay Classic.

The Eagles are 11-3 and have won four consecutive games. Against Carroll, AU led at halftime, 42-35. The second half belonged to the Eagles, who outscored Carroll, 47-26 over the last 20 minutes. Ashland shot 68 percent (19-28) from the field in the second half. For the game, AU connected on 58 percent (36-52) of its field goal tries. The Eagles nailed five of nine shots (56 percent) from three-point range.

Junior center Jackie Mason had her second double-double of the trip, notching 10 points and 11 rebounds. She also had nine assists, four blocked shots and three steals. AU’s leading scorer was senior guard Isolina Brescia with 16 points. In addition to her scoring, Brescia dished out eight assists.

The final AU player to reach double digits in scoring was sophomore guard-forward Dee Bethune. She had 14 points.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 10, when they return to Great Lakes Intercollgiate Athletic Conference action with a trip to Northwood.
