AU Women’s Basketball Ranked Sixth in Region
January 22, 2004

The Ashland University women’s basketball team received good news on Wednesday (Jan. 21) when the initial NCAA Division II regional rankings were released.

The Eagles, 14-3 entering Thursday’s game at Northern Michigan, are ranked sixth in the Great Lakes Region. The top eight teams in the region at the end of the season will advance to the NCAA Division II playoffs.

“I’m just thrilled,” said AU head coach Sue Ramsey. “We’ve worked hard and put ourselves in the position we’re in. I said at the beginning of the year we’d be better in January and February. I’m counting on us building on the foundation we’ve established the first part of the season.”

Ashland is one of six Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams that appear in the rankings. The region’s top team, Quincy, is from the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
