The Ashland University baseball team began its spring trip Thursday (Mar. 4) with an 18-0 win in Fort Myers, FL, against Salem International. The Eagles and the West Virginia school played a 7 p.m., game. That made for a long day for the Eagles, who had left Ashland Thursday at 4 a.m. The win gives AU a 7-1 record.

As the score indicates, the fatigue factor didn’t hamper the Eagles. AU piled up 10 hits in support of winning pitcher Cody Castle. Castle hurled the first six innings and allowed three hits. The junior righthander walked one and struck out four. Freshman lefthander Matt Patton pitched the seventh inning and struck out the side.

Senior catcher Josh Gaub and freshman first baseman Ron Oneson went 2-for-3 and sophomore outfielder David Waters was 2-for-4 with a double.
