The Ashland University baseball team
put together a three-game winning streak on Sunday and Monday
(Mar. 7-8) in Fort Myers, FL. The Eagles are 10-4.
On Sunday, the Eagles turned back Assumption,
9-2 and South Dakota State, 7-5. On Monday, the Eagles stopped
Indianapolis, 6-1.
Junior outfielder Allen Ayers and
freshman first baseman Ron Oneson both went 2-for-3
against Assumption. The Eagles clubbed three homers. Those came
from senior outfielders Bryce Bednarczyk and Brandon
Cornell and sophomore catcher Ray Frisbee. Bednarczyks
blast was a two-run shot.
Bednarczyk was the winning pitcher against
South Dakota State. He went 6 2/3 innings to post the victory,
allowing six hits. He walked four and struck out five. The save
went to junior righty Cody Castle, who recorded the final
out. At the plate, Cornell led the way, going 3-for-4 with a homer
and three RBI. Senior catcher Josh Gaub was 2-for-4.
Castle gave the Eagles a superb route-going
performance to get the win against Indianapolis. The Greyhounds
managed only five hits off of Castle. He allowed one run and it
was unearned. He walked one and struck out 12. Off those 12
whiffs, eight were called.
Sophomore outfielder David Waters was
2-for-3 and drove in two runs. Sophomore infielder John
Hosgood was 2-for-3 and Bednarczyk had a triple. |
