Ashland University head basketball
coach Roger Lyons has bolstered his backcourt with the
addition of 6-2, 185-pound guard Gabe Brooks of Columbus,
OH, and Franklin Heights High School. Brooks announced today that
he will attend AU beginning next fall.
Brooks is a two-time first team Ohio Capital
Conference selection. He was a second team Columbus Dispatch
all-star and third team all-district choice. Last summer, he was
named to the all-star team at the prestigious Five Star camp in
Pittsburgh. That camp was filled with players who have committed
to NCAA Division I institutions.
This past season, Brooks averaged 18.3 ppg.,
6.5 rpg., 6.0 apg., and 3.0 spg. In three postseason games he
averaged 26.0 ppg. Brooks led Franklin Heights to a 13-10 record.
Thats the schools highest win total since 1994.
He meant everything to our
program, said Franklin Heights head coach Rick Brady. He
can do it all. He was our best rebounder, our best shooter, our
best passer. He has great anticipation on defense. He pushes the
ball up the floor and keeps everyone involved. He can flat out
score. He made everyone around him better.
I thought we did a very good job
of recruiting him, we recruited him throughout the year,
said Lyons. We really like his offensive ability. He can
drive or shoot from the perimeter. He can shoot the three.
Ashland is an NCAA Division II institution that
competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
This past season the Eagles were 11-16.
