Ashland University senior baseball player Josh Gaub has been named a second team Academic All-America.

This is the second consecutive year that Gaub has appeared on the CoSIDA national All-America ballot. Voting for the team is done by sports information directors from around the country. Gaub, a catcher, owns a 3.30 grade point average. He is an environmental sciences major.

Gaub is the lone Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player to appear on one of the three CoSIDA College Division Academic All-America baseball teams. The organization selects a first, second and third team.

Gaub was a standout throughout his career. The Eagles advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs all four years he played. In 2003, Gaub was the GLIAC player of the year. He was a first team All-GLIAC and first team all-region pick as a junior and senior.

In 2004, Gaub hit a team-high .414 with six homers and 62 RBI. He was second on the team in doubles (13), RBI and slugging percentage (.597). Gaub led the Eagles (47-15) in on-base percentage (.525).

The Brunswick, OH, native was a nominee for AU’s male student-athlete of the year award for 2004. He’s also part of this year’s All-GLIAC Academic Team.
