Slonkosky Leads AU Golfers at GVSU

Maggie Slonkosky shot 160 and the Ashland University women’s golf team wrapped up its first week of play Tuesday (Sept. 7) by placing 13th in a 17-team field team at Grand Valley State.

The Laker Fall Classic was held at GVSU’s on-campus course, the Meadows Golf Course. Slonkosky’s score was the best carded by an AU player, she finished in a tie for 10th. Melissa Sneller of Grand Valley State was the medalist at 151.

The host Lakers won the tournament title with a team score of 632. Ferris State (637) was the runnerup and Southern Indiana (639) was third. Ashland’s team score was 706.

The Eagles got their season started with an appearance at the Ferris State Bulldog Fall Invitational, held at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, MI, last Saturday and Sunday (Saturday-Sunday). Ashland was 13th out of 19 schools at that event. The host Bulldogs took first place, shooting 595. Grand Valley State (607) was second and Northern Kentucky (615) was third.
