Both Ashland University cross country
teams fared well last Saturday (Sept. 25) at the College of
Wooster Invitational. Both teams brought home first place finishes
and had the individual champion.
The mens race was an 8K affair that
listed three teams. AU placed first with 25 points. Case Western
Reserve (48) was second and Wooster (65) was third.
Senior Nate Iler was first in 25:29 and
sophomore Evan Thomas was third in 25:55. Sandwiched in
between those two was Aaron Johnson-Peck of Case Western Reserve.
His time was 25:41. AU sophomore Bryan Ropp was fourth in
26:29.
The AU women captured the team championship
with 15 points. Wooster (61) and Case Western Reserve (61) were
next in line, followed by Ursuline (131) and Cuyahoga Community
College (136).
Junior Erin Stauffer crossed the finish
line first in 1:18.56.49 (5K). Junior Jess Fleming was
second (1:19:15.96), senior Colleen Wurzer was third
(1:19.26.33), senior Sherri Trent came in fourth
(1:19:39.48) and sophomore Miranda Forgac placed fifth
(1:19:39.81).
Next up on the schedule for the AU runners is
the All-Ohio Championships on Oct. 8.
