Ashland University football fans are
going to have to hit the road if they want to catch the Eagles in
the early stages of the 2005 season.
Ashlands first two games next season will
be played away from home. The Eagles open the season with a
non-conference game at Saint Josephs. The Eagles and Pumas
opened the 2004 campaign in Ashland with the Eagles winning, 48-7.
That was the first game Lee Owens coached at Ashland. This
will be AUs first trip to Saint Josephs, located in
Rensselaer, IN, since 1994.
The Eagles Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference opener will be at Ferris State on Sept. 3. The
FSU game is one of four night games on the 2005 card.
AUs home opener is on Sept. 10 against
Gannon. Thats also a night game and AUs traditional
fireworks show will follow the contest. Gannon is the most recent
addition to the GLIAC. Last year in Erie, PA, the Eagles got the
better of the Golden Knights in overtime, 22-19.
The following week, AU will welcome Grand
Valley State to town. This is the Lakers first appearance at
Community Stadium since 2001. Since that time, GVSU has won two
national championships.
Homecoming will be Oct. 14 and the opponent
will be Northern Michigan. Football Alumni Day will be celebrated
on Oct. 22, when the Eagles play Wayne State.
AUs traditional battle with Findlay will
be played Oct. 29 on the Oilers home field. That game will
kick off at 7 p.m.
Ashlands final home game is on Nov. 5
against Indianapolis. That is also Family Weekend and Senior Day.
