The Ashland University baseball team (3-0) opened the 2005 season with a doubleheader sweep at Bellarmine on Saturday (Feb. 19), then followed that with a single-game win Sunday, 10-5.

In the second game, junior Todd Wells got the win by hurling five shutout innings. He was backed by an AU attack that collected 23 hits. Oneson was 4-for-4 with three RBI and Wilson was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs. Reeder, junior Jim Barry and senior Allen Ayers all had three hits.

Dodging rain drops and determined Bellarmine, the Ashland University baseball team then completed a weekend three-game sweep Sunday with a 10-5 win over the Knights.

Ashland snapped a 5-5 tie by scoring four times in the top of the eighth inning. Junior Lek Cole, serving as the designated hitter, had a two-run single in the eighth-inning uprising.

Junior outfielders David Waters and Troy Reeder both went 2-for-2. Senior outfielder Allen Ayers had a pair of safeties and drove in two runs. Both teams had eight hits.

Senior righthander Todd Martinelli started for the Eagles and went 4 2/3 innings. He didn’t allow a run while surrendering one hit. The victory went to sophomore righty Josh Davidson, who pitched in relief.
